People are key to the success of Nestlé USA and one of our core values. In all positions, levels, divisions, functions, and locations, Nestlé employees create and drive our success. People are our most important asset and the source of our competitive advantage. People development is a top priority for Nestlé USA. Offering employees unique opportunities to develop professionally and personally is a challenge to which Nestlé rises in a number of different ways.
Nestlé University was created to help develop our people and develop a performance-based culture. Nestlé University has a wide range of training programs to enhance learning and performance. Our course curriculum is closely tied to Nestlé business needs and strategies. We offer a variety of courses in Nestlé Basics, Management Development, Functional Development, Executive Development and E-learning.

Nestlé Basics
The Nestlé University Basics team is responsible for developing curriculum that is relevant across divisions and functions. Nestlé Basics offers courses that are targeted to employees who are looking to improve competency areas that are not specific to any one function. Management development courses support our newly revised performance management system. These classes include:
- Orientation - to set the stage for communicating Nestlé's vision, values, goals and culture.
- General Business Development - essential skill building, i.e. time management or effective interpersonal communication.
- Performance Management (Performance Effectiveness Process) - to help managers develop effective skills for managing performance.
-
Management Development
Management Development courses are designed to teach management essentials, define what is expected of Nestlé supervisors and managers, and identify available resources. This is a mandatory class for all new managers. Classes include InsideOut Advantage Coaching, Manager Change Skills – Succeeding Through Change, and Situational Leadership.
-
Functional Development
Functional Development courses are designed to work with individuals to help identify, develop, recommend, and deliver courses designed to strengthen the functional competencies of professionals across the company such as marketing, retail sales, foodservices, and supply chain operations. Nestlé has identified key competencies that apply to the successful performance of jobs throughout the Company. These factors are defined by a set of behaviors or competencies that are an integral part of employee development planning discussions and are closely linked to our education programs.
-
Executive Development
Executive Development courses include the Leader Development curriculum that is designed to enhance the effectiveness of leaders at Nestlé by providing applicable knowledge and skills. The Leader Development series has Nestlé principles and values at its core, builds on state-of-the-art executive development programs, and focuses on the application of skills to solve practical business issues. Executive Development also encompasses the corporate succession planning process that identifies the company's high potential and high professional employees.

E-Learning
E-Learning is another important component of Nestlé University. It is one very relevant means of supporting our fast and performance driven culture. Nestlé University views e-Learning as a "right on time" training tool to assist employees in meeting their developmental needs. Within a matter of seconds an employee can select from the program's course list and begin training through interactive Web-based training right at their desks or from home.
