Washington, DC

Nestlé in the United States welcomes the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) final rules on the revision of the Nutrition and Supplemental Facts labels and updating of the serving sizes.

“Nestlé applauds the FDA for taking these bold steps that will help consumers make more informed choices in the grocery aisle,” said Paul Bakus, President of Nestlé Corporate Affairs. “We share the FDA’s continued commitment to public health and will continue our ongoing journey to improve the nutritional quality of our foods and beverages.”

Nestlé supports food labeling that is based on sound science and presented in a simple, useful manner to help best serve consumers. Specifically, Nestlé supports:

  • The increased prominence of calories. Nestlé has always been in favor of giving calories more prominence, and we support the increased font size for calories in the Nutrition Facts Panel. We will also continue to inform consumers through the Facts Up Front nutrition information currently on 93% of Nestlé USA food and beverage labels.
  • The declaration of added sugars (and the inclusion of total sugars). Nestlé supports the FDA's inclusion of added sugars in the Nutrition Facts Panel as a helpful tool that consumers can use to monitor their intake of added sugar. Nestlé is strongly committed to helping consumers meet the health recommendation to consume less than 10 percent of calories per day from added sugars.
  • That serving sizes will be more realistic. Nestlé supports changes in serving sizes to more accurately reflect what and how much people are eating. To help consumers, Nestlé has also committed to provide on-pack portion guidance.

In line with its commitment to Good Food, Good Life®, Nestlé aims to lead industry efforts to help ensure consumers have access to the foods, beverages and information they need to make educated choices and consequently enjoy good health and wellness.
