Supporting Breastfeeding

Our commitment: Support Breastfeeding and Protect It by Continuing to Implement an Industry-Leading Policy to Market Breastmilk Substitutes Responsibly

Ongoing – Ensure that the practices of the Nestlé Nutrition business consistently meets the FTSE4Good Index BMS criteria in line with the requirements for Low-Risk Countries.

By 2018 – Ensure that all provisions supporting breastfeeding in our Parent Support Policy are implemented.

Our progress

In 2016, we continued to uphold our commitment to market breastmilk substitutes responsibly. In addition to ensuring we’re doing what’s right for individuals and families, we’ve looked inward to ensure we’re doing right by moms and dads in the Nestlé family.

Our Parent Support Policy, implemented as of January 2016, offers 14 weeks of paid leave for primary caregivers of newborns, with the option of extending unpaid leave up to six months. We renovated some of the existing lactation rooms and expanded the number of lactation rooms in our offices and factory locations, and we encourage expectant mothers to enroll in the Nestlé Solutions for Nursing Mothers Program. Through UnitedHealthcare, new moms and dads have access to experienced, specialized maternity nurses who provide education, support, and special care based on the family’s unique needs. The Maternity Support program provides personalized support before, during, and after pregnancy. Subscribers to our health plan have access to a breast pump 100% covered by the plan. Our Solutions for Nursing Mothers Program offers moms access to certified lactation specialists to address concerns 24/7, a $50 gift certificate to upgrade their breast pump or purchase baby accessories, ongoing return-to-work support consultation via phone, and a nursing mother’s kit with a video and educational materials.
