Tim Brown, Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President of Nestlé Waters North America was presented last night with the Thomas Steel award by The Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County, recognizing his dedication to the organization’s mission to combat hunger and commitment to the community of lower Fairfield County. The ceremony took place at the 11th Annual Chefs’ Dinner to Fight Hunger, an event that raises money to support the work of The Food Bank while celebrating the culinary talents of local top chefs.
Kate Lombardo, executive director of The Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County, remarked on Mr. Brown’s selection as an honoree of this year’s Chef’s Dinner to Fight Hunger, saying, “The Food Bank is very grateful for the compassion Mr. Brown has shown to The Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County, Inc. His wonderful philanthropic example has motivated his employees to conduct food drives and volunteer hundreds of community service hours a year at The Food Bank’s warehouse store.”
“I am humbled to receive and accept the Thomas Steel award on behalf of all our employees who have dedicated their time and sent donations to support our community through the work of the Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County,” said Brown. “We are inspired by The Food Bank’s mission to provide nutritious food to non-profit organizations that feed the hungry in our area and we are proud to join them in their efforts to raise awareness of, and promote action to combat, hunger in our local communities.”
The Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County provides nutritious food to 97 non-profit organizations that feed low-income people in Darien, Greenwich, New Canaan, Norwalk, Stamford, and Wilton, Conn., while also seeking to raise awareness of and promote action to combat hunger in these communities. During its fiscal year ending June 30, 2016, the organization distributed more than 1.4 million pounds of food to its member agencies, representing a savings of more than $2.3 million over the wholesale cost of the food. Additionally, The Food Bank has provided over 4 million meals to more than 180,000 individuals.
Since 2012, Nestlé Waters North America has supported The Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County through volunteer hours and product donations. To date, 126 employee volunteers have committed more than 4,000 hours to The Food Bank, the only one located in lower Fairfield County. In 2014, Nestlé Waters North America partnered with The Food Bank to conduct the “Better Lives Food Drive” and since then, has donated approximately 12,050 pounds of food, equating to approximately 10,042 meals. Past honorees for the annual Chefs’ Dinner to Fight Hunger have included Chef David Cingari of David’s Catering and Executive Chef P. Quint Smith of the Stamford Yacht Club.

About the Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County
The Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County, Inc., a fully recognized I.R.C. 501 (c) (3) charity, is one of lower Fairfield County’s primary hunger-relief organizations. It provides food to about 97 non-profit agencies and programs that serve low income people in a six-town service area through bags of groceries and congregate meals. These include soup kitchens, food pantries, child care programs, homeless shelters, senior centers, domestic violence safe houses, and rehabilitation programs.
