Updated 10/20/2022:

At Nestlé we are absolutely committed to doing everything we can to get parents and caregivers the formula they need so their children can thrive. Nestlé teams have worked around the clock for the last several months to address the formula shortage and help meet the demand.

Operation Fly Formula

We have worked with the Biden Administration on Operation Fly Formula. Nestlé product was on the first shipment under the program on May 22, 2022, and through the collaboration we are helping add more than 1.7 million cans of formula, equivalent to approximately 42 million 8-ounce bottles, into the U.S. market supply for babies. This includes both specialty and standard formulas: Nestlé’s NAN SUPREMEpro 1, NAN SUPREMEpro 2 and NAN EXPECTpro SensiPro, Gerber Good Start Gentle and Extensive HA, and Nestle Health Science Alfamino and Alfamino Jr. To date, we have been involved in more than 14 shipments.

Our Additional Efforts

While a small player in the U.S. market, we significantly increased the amount of our formulas available to consumers by ramping up production and accelerating general product availability to retailers and online, as well as through hospitals and home health care for those most vulnerable.

Some of our actions over the last several months, beyond Operation Fly Formula include:

  • Running formula factories at capacity and optimizing efficiency across the system.
  • Supporting our WIC program states and flexing to support states beyond that, where needed and where possible.
  • Pulling stock out of reserves and infusing it into the market.
  • Immediately accelerated the import of specialty product produced at FDA registered factories outside the country to expedite availability in the market and serve immediate needs. This includes Nestlé’s Gerber® Good Start® Extensive HA® from the Netherlands and Nestlé Health Science Alfamino® Infant and Alfamino® Junior from Switzerland as they serve a critical medical purpose for babies with cow’s milk protein allergies.
