Registered Dietitian Ellie Krieger and Feeding America® Join the Outshine Brand in its Mission to Provide Healthier Snacking Options as it Aims to Donate Two Million Pounds of Fruits and Vegetables to Those in Need

More than 29 million Americans lack access to affordable food, including fruits and vegetables.* Many live in or near food deserts, which are urban neighborhoods and rural towns without ready access to fresh, healthy, and affordable food, largely due to a lack of grocery stores, farmers’ markets, and healthy food providers.** Outshine Frozen Snacks is leading a new effort with Feeding America, the nation’s leading hunger-relief organization, and nutrition expert Ellie Krieger to bring fruits and vegetables to individuals who lack access to produce. To launch its “Give Some Good” campaign, the Outshine brand today unveiled a pioneering, interactive billboard at Grand Central Station in New York that invites any passer-by to become directly involved with the cause.

The “Give Some Good” billboard – the first of its kind in the United States – makes it easy for commuters and tourists alike to donate $1 with a simple and secure swipe of their credit card straight down the middle of the billboard. The credit card swipe activates a film sequence on the billboard screen that shows a medley of fresh fruits and vegetables falling from the sky into the hands of a young girl. The tangible result is that each $1 swipe of a credit card allows Feeding America’s nationwide network of food banks to provide nine pounds of produce to those who need it most.

The billboard will be active in Grand Central Station at Vanderbilt Hall starting today through May 6. It will then travel to Chicago’s Union Station where it will be active from May 12 through June 9.

Nutrition expert and cookbook author Ellie Krieger, is helping Outshine Frozen Snacks to launch the interactive billboard and will be live at Grand Central Station on May 4. Krieger knows that access to healthy food is a critical first step to leading a healthy life.

“I have always been an Outshine fan because of the products' simple, honest ingredients like real fruit and vegetables. Even its new Simply Yogurt Bars are made with 100 percent yogurt, making it easier to find refreshing, wholesome snacks in the freezer aisle,” said Krieger. “I’m proud to work with both Feeding America and the Outshine brand on our shared mission to provide healthy food and snacks to everyone.”

In addition to the interactive billboard, Outshine Frozen Snacks is also helping secure one pound of fresh fruit and vegetables for every specially marked box of new Outshine Simply Yogurt Bars purchased during the months of June and July – with the goal of donating two million pounds of produce.***

“We believe that everyone deserves to have access to nutritious foods – like fresh fruit and vegetables – that are essential to a healthy diet and better life,” said Kerry McLaughlin, Outshine Associate Brand Manager. “Our brand is deeply committed to making healthy snacks made with real ingredients that taste as good as they make you feel.  We’re thrilled to be teaming up with Ellie Krieger, whose nutritional expertise helps us invite everyone to help us meet our ambitious goal of providing healthy food to those who need it most.”

“We are energized by our partnership with Outshine and the brand’s commitment to helping individuals who lack access to fruit and vegetables,” said Nancy Curby, vice president of corporate partnerships at Feeding America. “The ‘Give Some Good’ billboard is an exciting and creative new way to raise awareness about the 49 million individuals in America who may not know where their next meal will come from, as well as the importance of ensuring that fruits and vegetables are accessible to those in need.”

New Outshine Simply Yogurt Bars include five new varieties: Strawberry, Blueberry, Peach, Lemon, and Pineapple. In addition, Strawberry Banana and Mango flavors are available exclusively at Target.  Each bar contains just 90 calories, five grams of protein, ten percent daily value of calcium, and live and active cultures.  Outshine Simply Yogurt Bars are available now at major retailers nationwide. All flavors are available in four-count boxes at a suggested retail price of $4.39.
