Supporting Our Communities

Supporting thriving communities starts with our employees. We are all members of the communities in which we live and work and thus foster an environment and culture of volunteerism and helping others. From community outreach days to disaster relief aid and supporting food security in our neighborhoods, we pride ourselves on enabling thriving communities.

Community Volunteerism

  • Every August, Nestlé hosts its annual Nestlé Cares day to celebrate volunteerism in over 100 communities. In 2017, more than 5,000 Nestlé employees spent the day away from their typical work routine to volunteer as we partnered with Feeding America, the largest domestic hunger-relief organization in the U.S., to support local food banks and non-profit organizations that provide nutritious foods to families in need.
  • Since 2012, our Nestlé Skin Health business has been involved with Camp Wonder, a summer camp for children with chronic and life-threatening skin diseases. Every year, Camp Wonder gives nearly 100 children with severe skin diseases a week away from being bullied or stared at. They get a chance to experience the joys of summer camp and make friends. Camp Wonder is provided free, supported by volunteers, doctors and nurses.
  • Each year, Nestlé Purina celebrates PetCare Pride Day – a day devoted to community service at the team’s St. Louis Headquarters and at many of our factory facilities across the country. This past year, employees assembled bicycles, prepared ready-to-eat meals and personal care kits, filled backpacks with school supplies and made baby blankets for local nonprofits.

Food Security

  • One in six children in America faces hunger. Ensuring that every child starts their day with breakfast can help kids stay focused on learning and having fun rather than hungry bellies. We can dramatically reduce hunger by making sure kids in need are able to get a healthy school breakfast. That’s why in 2017 we launched a partnership with Share Our Strength to support the organization’s school breakfast initiatives as part of its No Kid Hungry campaign. The donation of $250,000 deepened Nestlé’s commitment to help children live healthier lives, adding thousands of children to the school breakfast program in California and Ohio, including an additional 10,000 in Virginia.
  • Food security also means ensuring proper food and nutrition for our favorite furry friends. In the wake of hurricanes of the past two years, Purina donated more than 360,000 pounds of dog food, cat food and litter to GreaterGood.org to reach pets in need and provided monetary funding that supported immediate and ongoing rescue efforts for supplies and rebuilding initiatives.

Disaster Relief and Emergency Services Support

  • With 2017 being among the most active hurricane seasons in history, countless people and pets were affected by natural disasters over the last two years. Animals can be especially vulnerable during hurricanes, flooding and other natural disasters, leaving pet owners, pet shelters and others faced with difficult decisions and added hardships. Purina answered the call in 2017; The Company's charitable donations last year totaled more than $28 million and included product donations and monetary funding for organizations that bring people and pets together, keep people and pets together and help communities and the environment thrive. Over the past four years, Purina has contributed $120 million toward these causes.
  • We just recently announced an expanded partnership with the Urban Resource Institute to create the first-ever entirely pet-friendly domestic violence shelter where every unit is designed for pets and people to survive and thrive together. PALS Place will be the country's first domestic violence shelter designed with pet co-living in mind, providing 30 apartments where survivors and their pets can escape abuse and heal together.
