Healthy Steps for Healthy Lives was developed as a resource for educators to help support your ongoing efforts to teach students about being healthy. Parents, after-school programs, and caregivers can also use the materials in the program.

Instructional Activities
Designed for grades K-3 and divided into three categories: THINK, EAT, and MOVE Healthy, the Healthy Steps for Healthy Lives® instructional activities provide step-by-step directions to carry out these easy-to-use lessons in your classroom.
THINK Healthy
It’s about understanding what being healthy means and setting meaningful and reachable goals about nutrition and physical activity.
EAT Healthy
How do we eat healthy? By incorporating three factors into our daily meals: Variety, Balance, and Moderation.
MOVE Healthy
It is universally recommended that elementary school-age children accumulate a total of at least 60 minutes of physical activity every day.
The Healthy Steps for Healthy Lives activities are tied to National Curriculum Standards in all academic areas.

Nutrition and Physical Activity Backgrounder
The purpose of the backgrounder is to provide educators with a review of knowledge necessary to facilitate the instructional activities in the Healthy Steps for Healthy Lives program.
Send the Healthy Family Connections home to parents to help communicate what students are learning about being healthy.

THINK Healthy Family Connection
Encourages families to discuss what being healthy means to them and includes a family sorting activity. -
EAT Healthy Family Connection
Provides families with tools and tips for utilizing guidance provided by the 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans. Includes a family card game, “Play Yummy!” -
MOVE Healthy Family Connection
Provides families with information to work toward the daily goal of 60 minutes of physical activity. Includes a family graphing activity.

Food Cards – Teacher Version
50 display size Food Cards picturing healthy foods from the five food groups. These cards are used in several of the EAT Healthy Activities and can be used for a variety of additional instructional purposes including games, sorting, graphing, and researching. -
Activity Cards – Teacher Version
30 display size Activity Cards picturing a variety of common sedentary, moderate, and vigorous activities. These cards are used in several of the MOVE Healthy Activities and can be used for a variety of additional instructional purposes.

Healthy Steps for Healthy Lives MyPlate Poster or Handout
This poster is a colorful and motivating visual learning tool that is used throughout the Healthy Steps for Healthy Lives lessons. It represents the key messages of the USDA MyPlate icon and can be used to help students learn about nutrition and physical activity year-round.
