Nestlé Cocoa Plan

Our commitment: Roll out the Nestlé Cocoa Plan with cocoa farmers

By 2016 – Expand the Nestlé Cocoa Plan to include the cocoa equal to the amount needed to produce 100% of NESQUIK® powder.

Our Progress

In 2016, we renewed our commitment to responsible cocoa sourcing with a goal, by 2017, of sourcing UTZ-certified, sustainable cocoa equal to amounts needed to supply 100% of our confections and snacks portfolio and NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® morsels. Not only did we achieve this goal in 2016 ahead of schedule, by the end of 2016, 90% of all cocoa materials directly sourced in the United States were UTZ-certified and purchased through the Nestlé Cocoa Plan.

The Nestlé Cocoa Plan, active in six countries, continues important work with farming communities through education, improving social conditions, capacity building, and other activities. To meet our increased demand for UTZ-certified beans in 2016, we expanded the Nestlé Cocoa Plan in Ecuador and partnered with one of our suppliers to implement the program in the Dominican Republic for the first time. While the program operates along the same principles of better farming, better lives, and better cocoa globally, the kinds of training support in each country differ based on local needs and farmers’ capabilities.
